Excuse me, but I don't really understand your question.

First, why would any software do a miracle? Only god can do some (if you believe in him, which I don't).

Also, why the fact that a software is open source change it's good or bad points? This is just a licensing. A nice licensing that allows people to contribute, which can have some added benefits, like the fact that our control panel (DTC) is translated in many languages like Russian, Chinese, Spanish, French, Polish, Swedish, Brazilian, etc. and that in many ways, people can add features that they want. Also, an open source software is not money driven, but feature driven, so the goal is really to make it usable for everyone (as opposed to being able to be sold).

Also, it has been proven that open source solutions can be real alternatives. Thousands of people have migrated from MS office to open office, including some gov. agencies.

All this is really not specific to the hosting industry, so to be more specific: why would the control panel, which is just a web interface, would be the only bit of your server that is not open source? This made no sense to me 9 years ago, and it still doesn't.
